 The Odd Fetishization of the 1980s

I don’t understand why people fetishize and look at the 1980s as if they were some golden age. The 1980s were certainly an age but it surely was less golden than Hollywood films of both the time and today picture. The satanic panic was in full swing, which meant that Metallica shirt you have would have been enough cause for you to get arrested on charges of rape, murder, and that dead cow on the farm 16 miles off town limits… despite none of the accusations being truthful or based in evidence. Innocent until proven guilty was nearly nonexistent. 
The 1980s was certainly a golden age for politically correct homophobia. It was no big deal how those dirty, sinful sodomites got treated, aids was the gay plague. 
While it’s a well done show, I do think that Stranger Things has given this younger generation (my generation) a false feeling of nostalgia. A want to live a life they never experienced but idealize only what has been presented by the media 40 years after the matter.
