Twenty minutes past three in the morning now. I made two cups of coffee then went out for creamer, taking with me the one with a reliable screw on lid with me, mixing in hazelnut and french vanilla in what I'm pretty sure is a 2:5 ratio and bringing back some little cups of the same and exact ratio for the other with a shitty lid; which I sit here sipping now as it has cooled off, unlike the other which will be warm till probably this time tomorrow. I also made an everything bagel with cream cheese which I consumed as I began finally watching the Netflix biopic Dahmer. I remember steering clear of it initially as it was all the rage for a good bit, but why let people ruin a possibly good show?
I remember quite a few other Satanists being all uppity about the use of a copy of The Satanic Bible as a prop on his bedside table— as did some Christians to some extent, for the same and opposite reasoning at the same time— of which I recall not terribly giving a shit. So what? This may be a biopic and that a troubled queer in the late 20th century would have such is probable, and as much in the context of the series, is literally a spooky prop; and free advertising in that given the popularity and infamy the series quickly rose to. They (the Satanists uppity) have read the book (presumably) as I have and with that know its inner philosophical content, so really, it's 'not that deep'.
People fear for another Satanic Panic, I doubt such an occurrence anytime soon with all the noise going on in the world already. Any sort of screaming and squabbling would merely fall flat, bleed in with the rest and be nothing more than static on the radio. Sure, while the one's most likely to create such a moral panic are the current administration, they're as much largely older and dying off, or unlikely to be in said positions longer than their current term limits based on near bipartisan disillusionment from royally screwing the pooch, or, well, more accurately little kid to be more literal.
I guess at the same time, in all the noise it's possible some figure of order could arise. I doubt that as well, seemingly it all just becomes more noise even with such figures coming up here and there. Sure, someone like Fuentes is fundamentally Catholic but his issue is largely with the Jews in Israel more than anything it seems— while Satanism and alternative people could be affected, he's as much a podcaster. But, Reagan was an actor as is the current kid-fucker-in-Chief, so who knows. But, in the wake of Charlie Kirk the religious right, as well as its other mainstream factions are too fractured for much of that... but with proper figure could be reunited. Cynicism in those entities however grows more widespread given how the last has turned out. People do turn to figures, albeit— as part of a tribalistic instinct no doubt, and with that movements which include spiritual traditions with a black and white framework arise; crutches used to fill and feel a sense of purpose. Nonetheless I doubt another Satanic Panic would occur as, for an example, evidence for underground tunnels in the McMartin shit were nothing more than buried trash from the days before garbage trucks came to collect bins weekly, meanwhile real tunnels exist in NY, created by the evangelical's "greatest ally" and religious sibling; not their oppositional offspring...
I've finished the first episode of Dahmer while writing this— an easy form of multitasking. The way the story is presented is interesting, or so I think. I'd take notes on it, but it would be rather menial and while sure, I'm writing about it now in this moment, it's not like Ed Gein where my interest is vested. Plus, it's nice to not incessantly being in the process of notation whilst trying to watch something and relax; not that I won't ever use it for fuel for future writing or as point of reference in some way as it all seems to come up and around eventually. Four in the morning now, I guess I'll watch another episode and sleep after that. I quite like the portrayal, it's personal rather than statistical or clinical; mundane alongside what is considered insane... Outside I can see grey-blue beginning to break the black...
Retiring to my bed then, in and out of sleep I watched a documentary on the Yellowstone super-volcano. It's incredibly interesting to learn how they only really discovered that it not only existed in its magnitude, but was confirmed via comparing the measurements of a ridge above a body of water, finding out that it had risen over two feet between the original 1920s land survey and a follow up nearly 60 years later after a person noticed the water had shifted. Digging through its geological record they found more evidence of this shift being a consistent back and forth teeter, so to say; by signs of an indigenous tribe that moved their site six times to and from to compensate for the shifting body of water; as well as not one but two enormous indentations from past eruptions and their ashes were discovered...
